Spetses are near to the south coasts of Argolida and is the southernmost and westernmost island of Argosaronikos Gulf. It constitutes an ideal destination for lasting a few days jaunts as well as for lasting many days holidays, all the year.

Spetses, thanks to its special natural beauty, the numerous sights, the remarkable cultural tradition and the cosmopolitan character, attracts a lot of Greek and foreign tourists.

The contribution of the island in the Greek Revolution 1821 was decisive. The great heroine Laskarina Mpoumpoulina was born here.

Spetses, with a lot of mansions of especial architecture, is fairly characterized as the lordliest island in Argosaronikos. The picturesque island of Spetses, being verdurous, with deep-shaded pinewoods, beaches with crystal-clear waters, paved cobbled roads, scenic churches, as well as vivid touristic traffic, is going to enthrall and fascinate you.

On the island, you can move only by horse-drawn buggies and motorbikes, as the vehicular traffic is forbidden.

In Spetses, there are many sights. In Peukakia square there is the house-museum of Laskarina Mpoumpoulina with the wonderful carved ceiling in the drawing-room. Near, there is the neoclassic residence of the benefactor of Spetses, Sotirios Anargyros, a building of 18 th century. At the entrance, two Egyptian sphinxes predominate. The imposing statue of Laskarina Mpoumpoulina stands in Poseidonios square.

The town hall, a building of traditional architecture, with a lovely garden adorning it, is found in hinterland. The glorious cultural history of the island is entertained in the mansion of Hatzigiannis Mexis, the first governor of Spetses.

Do not miss to visit the cathedral of Saint Nikolaos with the stunningly made belfry and the war memorial in the courtyard. You can also visit the Monastery of Saint Pantes and the church of Saint Triada, which offer an excellent view, as they are built on a high location of the town.

Except for the homonym town, there are also many other sights in the island. The cave of Mpekiris that was the main refuge for the fighters of 1821 is found in the southwest coast. Westwards, in the area of Agia Marina, remainders of an important prehistoric settlement of proto Greek period, as well as objects of late Greek period have been discovered.

Spetses can also display a wide variety of picturesque beaches with aquamarine waters. In the south coasts of the island, the much-frequented beaches of Agioi Anargyroi, Agia Paraskeyi and Xylokeriza distinguish. The peaceful beaches of Vrellos, Zogeria and Ligoneri, in the north side of the island, are also wonderful. You can also enjoy your swimming at the lovely beaches of Kounoupitsa and Agios Nikolaos, near to Spetses town.

When you come to the island, it is worth tasting the exquisite cuisine, the excellent marzipans and the wonderful specialty “fish spetsiota style”. For your entertainment, there are many bars, taverns, restaurants and clubs.

The sensational island of Spetses waits for you in order to give you moments of relaxation and drift you to its pleasant glamour.

How to get there

Coastally: Ferry Boats, Catamarans or Flying Dolphins depart daily from Piraeus Port to Spetses. The duration of the voyage may be from 1 hour and 45 minutes to 4 hours and 30 minutes depending on the mean you choose. Spetses are linked to Aegina, Poros, Hydra and Methana.

Roadly: You can also go roadly to Spetses via the National Road Athens-Korinthos. At the Isthmus of Korinthos, you go left to Epidaurus. From Epidaurus, following the street, you arrive at the region of Ermioni (Costa), where there are a Ferry Boat and a sea taxi to Spetses.
