.::. KARPENISI .::.
Karpenissi is the capital of Evritania prefecture and it is built on the south slopes of Velouchi at an altitude of 1000m at an overgrown area with fir trees, pine trees and chestnut trees. It took its name from the koutsovlachic word “carpinisi” which means place with many plane trees and from the Tourkish words “kar” which means snow and “benis” which means covered, so the word means “snow covered”.
Karpenissi is an ideal destination for action and extreme sports lovers but also for relaxation and resting lovers. Monasteries, churches, Byzantine monuments, museums, stone bridges, picturesque small taverns, traditional hostels, luxury hotels, extreme sports facilities, ski facilities and majestic landscapes of unrivalled natural beauty compose the picture of Karpenissi and the around area.
The region offers a well organized ski center. It is located at Velouchi Mountain and allocates seven lifts, twelve tracks, ski school, shop for renting or selling ski equipment, bar and restaurant. |
