Ikaria island got its name from Icarus, son of Daedalus. This island offers spectacular natural landscape, great scenery and inhabitants with eccentric untamed temperament.

Ikaria bruised excessively in the past by the pirates. For this reason, it made non-pirated villages as Lagkada. At the time of the Civil War, the island was a place of exile dissidents, who were embraced by their uncompromising residents. The island has an airport.

You should visit the ancient church of St. Irene, the archaeological museum of the island and the coastal settlement of Gialiskari with excellent infrastructure and wonderful beach Mesachti.

At Ikaria you will eat excellent food and drink the famous black wine from fokiano vineyard. To drink water, prefer the source of gravel in Karavostamo or the “immortal water” on the rocks of Xylosourti.
