Nisyros, a small island in the middle of the Dodecanese complex, has lots of natural beauties and a rich cultural heritage whose inhabitants maintain alive up today. The most characteristic geomorphologic feature of Nisyros is its volcano.

It is said that Nisyros was created after a series of successive eruptions of the volcano which is still considered to be active. Because of the easy access to its craters, thousands of tourists and scientists from all over the world visit it every year.

Apart from the volcano, you should also visit the picturesque villages of Mandraki, Pali, Emborios and Nikia as well as the Monastery of Panagia Spiliani founded in 1600, the Monastery of Panagia Kyra, the chapels of Evangelistria and Stavros, the acropolis of the ancient city Palaiokastro, the Castles of the Knights, the History and Folklore Museum, the hot springs of Mandraki, Pali, Avlaki and Shirous.

Like the majority of Dodecanesian islands Nisyros is surrounded by smaller beautiful islands such as Giali, Pirgousa, Pachia and Strogyli.

Famous beaches: Chochlaki, Mandraki, Avlaki, Katsouni, Pachia Ammos.

How to get there

By ship: from Piraeus ( about 14 hours )
By airplane: There is no air connection to Nisiros island. You may fly to Kos and from there catch a boat to Nisiros.
