Sikinos: Cliffs, dreamy hinterland, magnificent sunsets

Sikinos

Σίκινος, Κυκλάδες

Sikinos is a long and narrow, rocky island of Cyclades which lies between Ios and Folegandros and has a surface area of 41 sq. km. The harbour of Sikinos is called Alopronia.

Sikinos has been inhabited since the Mycenean era and its name comes from Sikinos, son of Thoas, the mythical king of Limnos.
In the recent years there has been a growth in residential building construction, but the island has maintained its traditional colour, with the white washed stone houses, the dry-stone hedges and the characteristic bench cultivations.
