Symi extents in 67 km2, it is located in the Southern Dodecanese, north of Rhodes and close to the coast of south-west Turkey.

The main town of Symi is divided into the upper and lower town. The lower town is called Yialos and the upper town Chorio . Most of the houses are neoclassical, painted in warm pastel colours, with balconies in the center and red tiled roofs.

In Symi Island don’t miss to visit the sights of the Venetian castle Kastro with Kyra Panagia church, the circular, stone construction of Pontikokastro, the Patitiria and the Dragon’s fortress that according to a myth it has been built by Dragons.

You should also visit the monastery of the Archangel Michael Panormitis on the southwest coast of the island. The monastery has two museums, one of ecclesiastical art rich in exhibits like pontificals, silver icons etc. and one of a folk art with important objects of the folk culture of the island. There is also a library with Byzantine manuscripts and editions of ecclesiastical, historical and philological content.

Famous beaches and islets of Symi Island: Nos, Agios Georgios Disalonas, Agios Nikolaos, Nanou, Marathounta, Faneromeni, Panormitis, Agios Emilianos, Agios Vasileios, Pedi and Sesklia, Nimos and Agia Marina islets.
